LAGOS : PERCEPTION

Love is not the first thing that comes to mind when one hears the name Lagos. The name is usually associated with busyness, people always on the go, a city that never sleeps, a commercial hub and the most popular city in Nigeria, Some even refer to it as the New York of Nigeria.

From the early rise of its inhabitants to avoid the morning traffic that usually has no root cause to the incessant noise pollution that comes from both vehicles and humans. It's either the bus conductor is arguing with passengers about the fact that he doesn't have small denominations of the naira note thus people with higher denominations should not enter the bus or its the preacher at the back of the bus preaching at the top of his voice. I mean forget the fact that little me just wants some peace and quiet because despite living in Lagos for 5 years now, i still believe that it is just plain wrong for anyone to hit the road anything before 6am.

However like some situations in life i have no choice, Lagos is where i am and it is where i live. So rather than become grumpy and frustrated at the way of Life in the city, i have chosen to see all the schenanigans of the city as Comic Relief...

Having been priviledged to have lived, schooled and visited various cities worldwide, I can confidently say that no matter what city of the world you live in, each has its pros and cons.

It all boils down to perception i.e. the way you choose to look at the situation.

I have come to love Lagos not because it's a perfect city but simply because at this point and stage in my life this is where i am, this is where i live, this is what i do...

So while I'm still jumping buses, leaving for work at 5am or listening to preachers in the bus i have decided to enjoy every single bit of it...so yea, Lagos with all its hustle is the city i have grown to love. I have grown from despising everything about it to finding comic relief in everything i see daily.

Sometimes life doesn't give us the luxury of making our desired choices; so if you can't change the situation in your life the key is to change your perception. a healthy perception will not leave leave you feeling drained, grumpy or frustrated, it will leave you feeling hopeful, excited and happy...

I have made my choice! what's yours?
